Andrija Stampar School of Public Health
Statutory functions of the institution and the department; formal links, if any, with other institutions and sectors with similar or relevant interests.
The impetus for this development we justify with the following facts. “Andirja Stampar” School of Public Health is the oldest School of Public health in the region of the Southeast Europe. It was founded in 1927 and has been responsible for the public health education in the region of the former Yugoslavia for 75 years and presents the only school of public health in the Republic of Croatia. However in the last past 10 years the activities and the staff of the School have experienced many drawbacks. Recently a good cooperation with some partner institutions was established and there is a need for the further development of excellence in public health education at “Andrija Stampar” School of Public Health.
The School with the staff of 150 people, a library and a potential for building distance learning and computer sciences facilities is a part of Zagreb Medical School and the University of Zagreb. Recently with the development of the changes of the curriculum of the Zagreb Medical School, the role of the School has been increased and therefore a need for a good quality public health education. The importance of the “Andirja Stampar” School of Public Health and its facilities has also been highly praised the Harvard Medical International which has been involved in curriculum changes at Zagreb Medical School. The need for the further improvement and quality in education in public health at Andrija Stampar school of Public health has been expressed at this occasion.
Moreover, the University of Zagreb has been emphasising more and more on the development of the new curricula within the ECTS structure and Bologna Declaration.
The Department of Environmental and Occupational Health has been involved in two international research projects funded by the European Commission (FP7):
1. ORCAB: Improving quality and safety in the hospital: The link between organisational culture, burnout, and quality of care (duration: 2009-2014)
2. PROMOVAX: Promote Vaccinations among Migrant Populations in Europe (duration: 2010-2012)
In addition, the Department has been conducting a project entitled Health in the Workplace and Healthy Working Environment (principal investigator: Professor Jadranka Mustajbegovic, MD, PhD). This project is funded by The Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Croatia.
The Department also serves as a World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Occupational Health and annually organizes Summer School of Workplace Health Promotion in Motovun, Croatia.
